Ang Baler sa Panahon ng Pananakop ng Amerikano
Not far from the plaza in front of Baler Church is a marker that dates back to the Commonwealth period. It says that to Baler was sent an American expedition to succor the Spanish. The year was 1899. The marker itself is telegraphic-brief and to the point-in the information it contains about that expedition. The marker informs us that on the morning of 11 April, the USS Yorktown, a gunboat under the command of Commodore William Sperry, USN, anchored in Baler Bay. Its mission: to enact the attempted relief of the Spanish garrison of four officers and fifty men besieged in Baler Church. What the marker does not tell us, in any great detail, is what follows the arrival of the gunboat in Baler Bay.

An Old Friend, I Lost Contact for Years
Do You Know Analiza Dumapias?
Have you had a friend way back from times you almost forget but the memories still linger in your mind? It’s always good to remember people who chanced upon your young life and become a part and parcel of it. A person who is very special to you, but one way or another you lost contact with for so a long time.
It is my wife who told me about her long lost friend. She chanced upon old files together with old photos. Really, picture tells a thousand words especially brings back time, as if caught in nostalgia. There she saw an old faded picture. It was an old picture of her with classmates during their high school days. Among them is Analiza. She was one of the special friends of my wife, Jennifer. Another undated picture of same young lady riding in human-drawn cart taken in Singapore.
Analiza Dumapias, her full name, was a high school classmate and friend of Jenny (as my wife is fondly called). They were in third year. It was the years 1986 to 1987 at the Philippine Air Force College of Aeronautics in Villamor Airbase,
Jenny wants to locate Ana and establish communication. It is the reason why Jenny asks me to publish this open letter in my blog. If anyone who knows Analiza Dumapias and happened to read this, please give information on how to contact her by posting your comment here. Also, do inform Ana about this.#
